The Race!
We once again hosted a two-mile race in our community. This year we had runners from Las Mangas and El Naranjo (our neighboring community), El Pino (members of the Discipleship Group) and two different family groups from La Ceiba.
Over fifty people participated in the races! In the two-mile distance we had a male and female youth category for ages 10 to 17, as well as the open men’s and women’s race. We had a half-mile race for ages 6 to 9, and a 100 meter kiddie race for five and under.
The results: Larry won first place overall (11:27), and Gerson won second place overall (12:12); Bayron beat Andrew (who is with us for three months), and now Andrew has to clean the bathroom two weeks in a row; Deidre came in second for the women, and Joel finished well; Eva and Anna “ran their best,” and Eliya was too tired to remember she was supposed to run (Tio Gerson picked her up and carried her to the finish line).
It was a great time with a fun, community atmosphere, perfect weather, a Biblical devotional by Joel Oliver, and a time of interaction and involvement with many in our communities who would not come for a Bible study or to engage in conversations about God. We pray these moments will provide greater opportunities in the future.
Larry’s Trip to Nicaragua
Larry was asked to present his data and experience on his experimental farm using the inga tree in erosion control barriers at an ECHO conference in Nicaragua for people working in Central America and the Carribean. The presentation was well received and many other agricultural development agents are eager to try the inga system. Larry was able to talk with and be encouraged by others who are serving Christ in similar ways. We continue to pray and hope for God to send someone to join the agricultural work at Campus so we can continue to glorify God in this way.
The Littlest Smoak
Isaiah is a smiley boy who receives a lot of attention from his sisters—and all the rest of us! We are learning what he likes (people talking to him and being carried) and doesn’t (being woken up). He is doing all a baby is supposed to do and already weighs more than eleven pounds. He has been suffering with the rest of us with a cold because his sisters couldn’t stop kissing him. It’s nice they shared. We are thankful for this baby boy and look forward to the way he will impact our family and God’s kingdom.
Praise the Lord for:
-the 2-mile race we hosted where more than fifty people participated and heard the hope of Christ.
-a successful trip for Larry to Nicaragua to present on his work with the inga system.
-a good team at Campus this fall with us: Joel and Deidre Oliver and Andrew and Abigail, friends from Minnesota who will marry in May.
-Isaiah David’s healthy development.
Pray to the Lord for:
-God to continue to lead Larry in his preparations for Discipleship Group and for Campus.
-discernment in how to lead the young men with whom we have contact inside and outside of our home.
-health from a cold that has hit us all for several weeks.
-preparation for a trip to the US in December and January.
